Nothe Fort, Dorset

Role: Heritage Surveying & Conservation Advisory Services

Built in the mid-1800s, Nothe Fort was a key coastal defence protecting Portland Harbour and the naval base. Its well-preserved military architecture reflects its strategic importance during Victorian times and both World Wars. Today, it stands as a significant heritage site and museum, preserving Dorset’s coastal defence history.

Project Overview:

Celador Consulting was engaged to provide specialist heritage surveying and advisory services for Nothe Fort, supporting its ongoing preservation and management. Working closely with the client, Historic England, and consultants, we offered technical advice on maintaining the historic fabric while enabling sensitive improvements aligned with best conservation practices. Our role included condition assessments, developing repair strategies, and advising on sustainable maintenance that respects the Fort’s significance.
